The Bull Dog is a breed that originated in England. In the nineteenth century, British people were referred to as "Bull Dogs" because of their pugnacity. In the fourteenth century, Bull Dogs were used in bull-baiting events—the dogs would seize a bull's nose and not let go until the bull fell. Since then, thanks to a few dedicated breeders, the temperament has improved greatly.
The Bull Dog is relatively large with a broad chest and slightly higher at the loins than at the shoulders; it has dark eyes and small rose ears. Its tail is short and its coat is close and smooth. Colar veries are most common, usually in combination with white; most colors are acceptable. It usually weighs around 56 pounds (26 kilograms).
